Origin and purpose
The beginning of the college goes back to the concern of Lutherans in Australia in the 1840s to educate people for service in the church. Australian Lutheran College reflects the church's long-standing interest and involvement in Lutheran theological education in this country.
The college is owned by the Lutheran Church of Australia and has the primary function of providing theological and vocational education for those people who wish to serve the church as pastors, teachers, or church workers. The present emphasis is on the vocational formation of people who are preparing to serve the church in the post-modern world where there is much talk of spirituality but little understanding of the genuine thing, which only the Christian faith can offer.
