Worship life

Every weekday morning during trimester time the College community gathers at 10.25 for worship in the campus chapel. Its central location in Hebart Hall reflects the centrality of worship in the life of the community.

Students from care groups, with the guidance of lecturers, plan and lead the daily services as part of their training. These services vary in format and musical style. We try to overcome the polarisation between traditional and modern forms of worship by blending elements of both in a way that is theologically sound and liturgically appropriate. Emphasis is given to the singing of psalms and intercessory prayer for the congregations and schools of the LCA.

Some paintings, including a golden icon of Christ and a water-colour painting on baptism as dying and rising with Christ, reflect the importance of art in Lutheran worship. The most prominent work of art in the chapel is a large painting by noted Australian sculptor John Dowie which depicts scenes from the crucifixion of our Lord. It is arranged in the form of a triptych. In it the artist focuses our attention on the hands of Christ and all the people involved in his crucifixion.
