Postgraduate biblical units

BIB3003 Bible Then and Now

Prerequisites:

Course unit purpose

Core unit of the GradDipTh(FCN) and MThSt; and, an elective unit for other postgraduate courses, except the DMin and DTh.

The general purpose of the unit is to engage students in a disciplined, scholarly discussion of the nature, content and purpose of the Old and the New Testament Scriptures.

Required texts

A study Bible provides notes, cross-references, indexes and maps which assist in the interpretation of texts.
Translations preferred by ALC are the NRSV or the TNIV. Please seek advice from lecturer before purchasing a Study Bible edition.

The Bible is also available on-line at http://www.biblegateway.com/. This site provides numerous English translations. If you find a passage obscure, try a different translation to see if it makes more sense.

The New Revised Standard Version is available on-line at http://www.devotions.net/bible/00bible.htm. This is one of the only translations using gender-inclusive language. Since language centrally shapes thinking, students are recommended to use a gender-inclusive language version, or to adjust exclusive versions accordingly.
