Description

The Graduate Certificate in Religious Education [GradCertRE] award is an exit point from the Master of Education, which provides students with the opportunity to investigate current theories, research, issues and practices in a variety of fields of education and to examine these critically using Lutheran principles of education. The GradCertRE offers students a professional development program with an emphasis on religious education within the Lutheran school system. The course provides a foundation for students interested in further postgraduate study. It also provides the academic requirement for accreditation as a Lutheran teacher and also as a teacher of Christian Studies for Lutheran schools.

The Master of Education incorporating the GradCertRE enables students to:

Course structure

The GradCertRE is an exit point from the MEd consisting of 40 credit points [FTE = 6 months]

Unit requirements

20 credit points [2 x 10cp core units]

Alternative based on completion of Equip modules
Where students have completed all 10 Equip modules they may substitute EDU3031 for EDU3029 Teaching the Christian faith in the Lutheran school

Alternative for GradCertRE as initial teacher education
Where students are completing the GradCertRE as part of their initial teacher education [together with the MTeach] they are to complete EDU3019 instead of EDU3016

20 credit points [2 x 10cp elective units]

Elective units for the MEd and its exit points

* indicates units which are recommended for students who have not done any previous formal biblical or theological study
# indicates units which are available only to students who have completed all 10 Equip modules

The above elective list also includes units where the core units are not common to all nested courses.
Electives may also be selected from other ALC postgraduate courses, specialised units from other tertiary providers or research electives.

Requirements to receive the qualification

In order to receive the award students are required to complete the requirements according to the course structure at an accumulated grade point average of at least 2.00 [P1].
