The Australian Lutheran Institute for Theology and Ethics (ALITE), in cooperation with the faculty of Australian Lutheran College (ALC), hosted an international conference in July 2016 on the theology of Martin Luther to mark the 500th anniversary in 2017 of the Lutheran Reformation.
Its aim was to explore, positively and critically, the reception of Martin Luther’s theology today, and its significance for Christianity in the future, in a three-dimensional focus: ecumenical, global and future-focused.
Five international Luther scholars, as well as several ALC and other Australian Luther scholars, presented papers based on original research and thought, which will be published soon.
The 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation is a major milestone not only in the global Lutheran church but also in the history of western Christianity.
