Frequently asked questions

When can I move into the College?

We would like all the residents to move into the college the weekend before Orientation Week held in early February each year. Certain exceptions may apply—you will need to speak to the Boarding House Manager.

Are the floors segregated between males and females?

Yes. We believe that each gender should have their own privacy and bathroom facilities. In our residential halls we have four floors for male residents and three floors for our female residents.

Can I personalise my room?

We encouraged residents to make their room comfortable with their own personal touches. When putting posters, pictures and other items on the walls we ask you to use blue tack or 3M hooks with command adhesive, which will not damage the walls.

What type of room do you have?

All rooms are single study bedrooms with built-in desk, chair, wardrobes and shelving.

Can my family stay overnight when dropping me off or visiting?

We have two self-contained flats for parents to stay in at a reasonable rate.  Early bookings are essential as the flats are in great demand.

What are the facilities?

Each room is supplied with a landline telephone and internet connection. Each floor has two shared bathrooms, kitchenettes and common rooms.  External to the boarding houses is the Student Centre which contains a table tennis table, pool table and foosball for entertainment, as well as relaxation areas with a large TV. There is also a squash court, gym and an outdoor court for tennis, netball and basketball.

What type of security do you have?

The entrance doors to each building are locked at all times. Visitors have to ring the bell and sign in and out via the visitor’s book. University Security services patrol the campus during the night. Our Boarding House Manager and Assistant live on campus and are on call 24 hours.

Can I have visitors in my room?

Visitors can visit you in your room. If the person is of the opposite gender they can visit between 10.00am and 12.00pm.  All visitors must be signed in and out by the person they are visiting.

Do I need to supply my own linen?

Two sheets, one pillowslip and two towels are supplied each week and these are professionally laundered. We supply blankets but have found that residents generally prefer to bring their own quilt and quilt cover.

What laundry facilities do you have?

  • Automatic washing machines—you will need to supply your own washing powder
  • Coin operated dryers
  • Ironing room with ironing boards and irons
  • Outside clothes line in fully fenced and locked area

I have food allergies what can be done for my meals?

If you have food allergies or are a vegetarian please talk to the Refectory Manager who will make sure your specific dietary requirements are met.

Do you have onsite parking?

Yes we have approximately 50 onsite parking spaces. These are not allocated, but work on a first come, first served basis.

What happens if something stops working or breaks?

If you need any repairs to be done, we have a maintenance box with forms next to it in each boarding house. This is checked each day by our Maintenance Department.

How do we get our mail?

All mail is delivered to ALC Reception in Hebart Hall where it is sorted then placed into your individual mail boxes in the Student Centre. If you have a parcel delivered, we will notify you that it is in reception and that you need to sign for it.

Do I need to notify you if I go home for holidays?

If you go home for the holiday period, we will need to know so that we can refund you the meal portion of your weekly fees for those weeks. This information is also required for the Refectory staff and Security staff.
