Thinking of study at ALC: Special entry

It's never too late to start studying ….

If you think studying is only for young people just out of school then think again. ALC welcomes applicants from a range of backgrounds. We are proud of our long history of theological education; in fact a large number of all students at ALC are classed as adult entry students.
Many adult students thrive in a higher education setting where learning environments are enhanced by the valuable experiences and knowledge they bring to their studies.

Eligibility for admission

Admission to ALC undergraduate courses is normally on the basis of successful completion of secondary education to a standard required for admission to tertiary studies. However, students may also be admitted on the basis of appropriate special entry which may include the completion of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test [STAT] test or equivalent and may include life experience and/or recognition of prior learning. Refer to Credit transfers for further information about credit transfer and recognition of prior learning.

Specific entry requirements for particular degrees and awards are included in the respective course information section.

What is special entry?

Special entry is the higher education provider’s way of giving people who haven’t to the necessary educational qualifications [school, university or TAFE/VET] or whose qualifications aren’t competitive enough, the chance to apply successfully for higher education courses. ALC recognises that the skills required to be successful in a course can be acquired through a person’s life experiences so ALC welcomes special entry applicants.

If you are unsure whether you are required to sit the test for admission to a course, consult with the relevant Head of School.

For information on the Special Tertiary Admissions Test [STAT] refer to the following website: www.acer.edu.au/stat/index.html
