How does flexible education work?
There are three main study modes for flexible education students at Australian Lutheran College
Staff at Australian Lutheran College are aware of the diverse pressures students face as study commitments are juggled with work, family and social responsibilities and therefore endeavour to support students in every possible way to achieve their study goals.
Assessment and other contact with Australian Lutheran College can differ with each unit and study mode.
Flexible education students require self-motivation, self-discipline and perseverance.
We recommend that students spend 10 hours of study per week for each 10 credit points. With sensible time-management and good study skills, study by flexible education can be successful and fulfilling.
We encourage students to keep in contact with ALC by email or phone throughout their studies.
Students may choose their own supplier of texts and readings for ALC units from various Australian and overseas suppliers through their websites. Please note that Openbook will continue to stock and sell their own material as well as selected titles from Concordia Publishing House and Augsburg Fortress. The titles that can be ordered from Openbook are listed in their catalogue and on their website. Books that do not appear in this catalogue will have to be obtained from other suppliers.
The ALC Book Service is a new non-profit service run by volunteers, Helen Schubert and Pauline Burger. It is a book ordering service, not a bookshop—no books are held in stock. It has been set up mainly to handle orders for required texts for on-campus students. However off-campus students may ask for advice about possible suppliers. Simply email bookservice@alc.edu.au with details of the books needed, and when you will need them.
If you visit ALC in person in the course of your studies, you may consider using the Book Service. The following conditions apply: firm orders only, with $5 deposit per title, and balance to be paid when collecting the book from the Book Service. You will be notified by email when the book arrives. [Many titles may take up to 3 months to come, so you will need to order well in advance.]
