Opening Service and Lecture
5 February 2016
ALC invites you to attend the following events being held on Monday, 22 February 2016, which mark the beginning of a new academic year for the college. The day will begin with worship in the chapel at 9.00 am followed by the opening lecture at 9.30 am in the refectory.
This year’s lecture will be presented by Mrs Tania Nelson (Head of the School of Theological Studies) and is entitled ‘Leadership matters: principals, pastors and the mission of Lutheran schools’. The lecture draws upon Tania’s doctoral research on the contributions of pastors and principals to the mission of Lutheran primary schools. The perceptions of primary principals and congregational pastors in the field - in regard to their community leadership actions, their spiritual leadership actions, and their views of Lutheran schools – will be presented. Though the research was limited to leadership in Lutheran primary schools, it is contended that many of the findings are transferable to Lutheran secondary schools and other faith-based schools who are concerned with being a Christian witness in the world. The lecture proposes eight characteristics of missional leaders in Lutheran schools and concludes by recommending actions to strengthen the mission focus of schools.
The morning’s program will also include the launch of the ‘Kriewaldt Chair in Systematic Theology’ – a lectureship established through the generous support of members of the Martin Kriewaldt family.
If attending either the service or the lecture, please park off campus and enter via the entrance at 200 Ward Street, North Adelaide. For all enquiries or to notify of your attendance, please contact Alice Lamnek on (08) 7120 8200 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
