Australia/New Zealand Theological Schools gathering deemed a success
18 July 2017
Australian Lutheran College recently hosted the 2017 ANZATS conference. The conference attracted more than 90 participants associated with the Australian and New Zealand Association of Theological Schools (ANZATS). The theme chosen for this year’s conference, which ran from 9 to 12 July, was Kinship and Family: In contemporary Australia and New Zealand.
The conference began on the Sunday evening with opening worship held at Christ Church, North Adelaide. This was followed by a reception hosted by St Barnabas College which was the first of many opportunities over the four days for attendees to share in fellowship.
Participants who attended the conference spoke highly of the program on offer and the papers presented, which included addresses from keynote speakers Dr Lynn Cohick (Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College, USA) and Dr Stephen Barton (Reader and Honorary Fellow of Durham University, UK). Dr Dylan Coleman, author of the award winning book Mazin Grace, was the guest speaker at the conference dinner on the Monday evening.
The conference concluded with lunch on the Wednesday, with many taking the opportunity to linger on into the early afternoon and swap contact details with newly discovered associates. In closing the conference Associate Professor Robert McIver, President of ANZATS, thanked all for their attendance and commended the 2017 conference planning committee (Dr Elizabeth Boase – Lecturer and Head of the Department of Theology at Flinders University and Adelaide College of Divinity, Rev Dr Matthew Anstey – Principal of St Barnabas Anglican College, Dr Aaron Chalmers Head of the School of Ministry, Theology and Culture – Tabor College, and Rev James Winderlich – Principal of ALC) on their planning and running of a successful conference.
