On Tuesday 11 May, Australian Lutheran College presented a special night of ecumenicalism, with a public lecture entitled ‘The Church for Others: Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Pioneering Ecumenical Vision’, by visiting Finnish theologian Rev Dr Tomi Karttunen.

‘We were pleased that, in the spirit of Bonhoeffer, this was a truly ecumenical event,’ said Rev Dr Jeff Silcock, ALC faculty member and the organiser of the lecture. ‘We had over 150 attendees, from a range of backgrounds, as well as a number of students from ALC’.

This was the only Australian lecture by the winner of the 2008 John Templeton Award for Theological Promise for his doctoral research on this topic. His address on Bonhoeffer’s powerful ecumenical vision was both challenging and inspirational for Christians of all traditions.
