450 years of the scriptures – from hand illustration to MP3
Acquisitions Librarian, Mrs Pam Zweck Silcock, holds the new MP3 Bibles
Löhe Memorial Library collections span 450 years of bringing the scriptures to faithful Christians. Pride of place in the rare book collection is held by a beautiful hand painted printed Bible translated by Martin Luther and published by Hans Lufft in 1550. Pages from this Bible illustrate the library website.
‘At the other end of the spectrum, the MP3 Bibles are the latest two acquisitions!’ announces Library Manager Blan MacDonagh. ‘Our media collection holds audio CDs in MP3 format of modern English translations of the scriptures. The entire Bible is available for loan on 6 MP3 audio CDs—you can play on your PC, on a compatible CD player or in your car as you drive along.’
The library has a large collection of commentaries on the scriptures as well as historical and archaeological reference works. Reference material is available through an online database, the Oxford Biblical Studies Online, which can be accessed via the web.
‘We are bringing the Bible to you in multiple formats to meet your varied needs,’ explains Blan.
