School of Educational Theology [SET]

Spiritual development: We encourage students to develop strong habits of worship and spiritual development

  • Active worship and prayer life
  • Regular reading of the Bible
  • Keeping a spiritual journal
  • Attending gathegs eg care groups, seminars
  • Academic Units: We provide a range of academic units under a broad range of headings below:

  • Bible overview
  • Theological overview
  • Theology and education dialogue
  • Classroom practice and worship based on the Christian faith
  • Ministry as a Christian teacher and ethics for educators
  • We offer: Several courses and programs are available for you to consider.

    1. For those already qualified as teachers, we offer the Graduate Certificate in Education (GradCertEd), the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education (GradCertRE) and the Master of Education (Med).
    2. For those not yet qualified as teachers, we offer the opportunity to undertake Australian Lutheran College units within the Bachelor of Education courses at a number of ALC university campuses. These include all universities in Adelaide, all campuses of Australian Catholic University and the University of Southern Queensland. The ALC units make up the academic component of the Lutheran Strand which also includes some vocational formation activities each year.
    3. For students unable to attend at any of the campuses, or at ALC, we provide the opportunity to access ALC units through flexible education delivery.

    Practical opportunities: We encourage students to enter the circle of practice of Christian teaching through contacts with experienced Christian teachers

  • practice teaching in a Lutheran school
  • opportunity to visit and observe activities in Christian schools
  • establishment of ongoing personal and professional interaction with classroom teachers
