New partner announced for 2024 Festival of Learning

ALC is delighted to announce a new Festival of Learning partner for 2024 - the Uniting College for Leadership and Theology (UCLT) who are the tertiary provider for the Uniting Church in South Australia. This partnership will enhance the breadth of Festival presentations enabling members and friends of the Lutheran and Uniting Churches to learn together and enjoy each other’s company. Festival organisers are excited to welcome UCLT, and Uniting Church presenters and participants.

To accommodate this new partnership, the closing date for expressions of interest to present has been extended to Friday 6 October, 2023. You are invited to submit a proposal to events@alc.edu.au including a title and synopsis of the proposed presentation.

A reminder of the dates, theme and details for the Festival are summarised below.

The 2024 Festival of Learning will be held online from Tuesday 20 February to Thursday 22 February.

The theme, ‘Challenging boundaries – life at the edges’, is inspired by Mark’s gospel where we find various accounts of Jesus crossing physical, religious, and cultural boundaries to engage with people. In our world today the good news is that God’s kingdom comes to people beyond all human boundaries. Following Jesus leads us to the edges of what we know as familiar. The Festival of Learning 2024 is a forum to explore life at the edges.

Potential presenters should define the theme broadly as an eclectic range of presentations designed to appeal to participants with diverse interests and perspectives. Presentations can be focussed on theological, biblical, missiological, practical, cultural, Christological or ethical aspects of the theme, current research, or any other conversations and topics connected to the theme. The festival provides an opportunity for people to come together and learn from each other while reflecting on faith, ministry and theology.

Sessions run for 50 minutes and generally take the format of a presentation followed by a time for questions. Presentations will take place online so those presenting do not need to be located in Adelaide.
